What I Write...
I’m drawn to literary fiction that explores human personality and memory in all their complexity. I appreciate writers with a strong sense of place and a poetic sensibility.
I write the type of fiction that I love reading and for a while now I’ve been especially drawn to magical realism. The novels of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Laura Esquivel, and Toni Morrison affected me deeply. I’ve written several short fiction pieces in this genre and plan more in the future.
Why do I love magical realism—not fantasy—but a realistic world in which the magical or inexplicable intrudes in such a way as to change characters lives? Because I believe it’s more truthful than a world without magic or dreams or memories manufactured by our incredibly creative—and sometimes mischievous—subconscious.
